Detroit Bikes!!!
Detroit Bikes, a Synergy project that aims to promote bike riding in the city of Detroit, is having their first Saturday ride this Saturday April 9th. The purpose of these rides is to show people what our group feels are the best routes for biking in the city.
We are currently working with the City of Detroit to identify these routes and have them marked with signage and eventually bike lanes. Every other Saturday we will be looking to ride a different route in the city that we marked on our map and stop and talk to local business owners along the way about our plans. These rides are designed for the casual bike rider and will be low intensity with many stops. Therefore you do not need to be in Lance Armstrong like shape to ride with us. We do recommend that you wear a helmet for safety and that your bike is in good working condition. At the pace we will be riding any type of bike will suffice.
This Saturday’s ride will originate from Cafe de Troit in downtown at 1260 Library St. We will be starting the ride at 10am so please arrive prior to that time. The ride will be out to Belle Isle and then back via Eastern Market. Major attractions of the ride will be the new Ren Cen Winter Garden, planned river walk development, new Tri-Centennial State Park, Chene Park, Stroh River Place, Belle Isle including Conservatory, Driving Range and DYC, new Lafayette shopping center, Lafayette Park, Eastern Market.
If you’ve never ridden your bike in the city before then you will quickly realize how easy it is to get to all of these places by bike. If it is raining we will not ride. Otherwise we will be riding. Those with questions can contact ride organizer David Naczycz at davidn@theraegroup.com or project leader Alex Froehlich at ajfroehlich@netzero.net
