- Celebrate Cinco de Mayo on May 7th, with a bike ride and enjoy Mexicantown’s cultural character with exploration of a festival at Clark Park this Saturday morning This Saturday’s ride will begin at grand circus park and head through the downtown district and loop through southwest Detroit. We will pass through Corktown, Mexicantown, and the West Riverfront, with the option of a longer route offering Historic Fort Wayne. Unique buildings along the route include Old Tigers Stadium, the Michigan Central Depot, the International rail tunnel, Clark Park, the Ambassador Bridge, and St. Anne’s Church along with several other unique buildings and districts. There will be an hour break reserved for lunch or exploration so if you love Mexican food, want to be apart of a Mexicantown Festival celebrating Cinco de Mayo or maybe you just would like to have a picnic in the park near any of these attractions, then please pack up something small to enjoy or your money/credit card…remember you have to bike around a picnic and a lock if you plan to do so.

OUR RIDE IS FREE! … including a souvenir bandana, but we strongly suggest a donation to support Detroit Bikes! And Back Alley Bikes, two non-profit groups aimed at promoting cycling in the city. - Bikes!, in its effort to connect the cycling scene in Southeast Michigan, encourages all to be apart of a unique enjoyable friday night ride. Univerisity of Detroit-Mercy McNichols campus will host its annual midnight ride event September 23rd. Scheduled start time is 10pm, at a location on the University of Detroit-Mercy campus (location TBD). This estimated 35 mile ride will wrap around the city, with an escort from Campus Public Safety and Student Life. If you are an inexperienced rider, then dont worry, the pace of the ride will be slow.

- Bikes! is excited to be a part of a “Critical Mass.” These friday evening rides encourage cyclists to enjoy the city even without a plan. This monthly event occurs every last friday of the month, and encourages detroit to get out and bike for the sake of cycling. Scheduled start time is 5:45pm and Critical Mass always meets and the Pingree Statue at the corner of woodward and adams in West Grand Circus Park. Estimated rides are usually between 10-12 miles or 2-3 hours with a leisure pass. If you are an inexperienced rider, then don't worry, this actually is a great ride to get into the pace of riding through the city.

- Tour de Troit 2005 and Detroit Bikes! The 4th Annual Tour de Troit is set for September 24, 2005. The ride takes off at 10:00 a.m. from Roosevelt Park. When the ride is complete, there will be entertainment, food, and drink in the shadow of Michigan Central Station! The Tour de Troit 2005 will be approximantely 35 miles, and will proceed at a leisurely pace of 10-12 mph. The ride is accompanied by the Detroit Police Department to ensure safety at major intersections. The Tour de Troit raises money for the on-going maintenance of the Corktown-Mexicantown Greenlink and works to promote biking in the City of Detroit. The Tour de Troit is fully-supported by a SAG vehicle. Pre-registration is available at www.corktowndetroit.org! Regular Pre-Registration ($20 per rider, includes Tee-Shirt before September 10, 2005). Student Pre-Registration ($10 per rider, includes Tee-Shirt before September 10, 2005).

We will leave the Millenium Bell at Grand Circus Park @ 1:00-1:15pm and go to “work” promoting cycling in the city. Work Sites include: Eastern Market; Waterworks Park; the Packard Plant; the Kowalski Plant; A Scene from 8 Mile; Some works of art; MotorCity Brewery; Avalon Bakery; Downtown Detroit; Joe Louis Arena; The “new” riverfront; and, of course, where we have gone to work each and every tour, the GCP Millenium Bell.
