Detroit. It's Worth It. 2009 Calendar

At the start of 2008, we had a member create a project called Detroit: It's Worth It, where we asked people like YOU to submit photos of why you think Detroit is worth it. The result of that project was a gallery show of over 100 images that took place in a store front at the Lofts of Merchants Row. From that project came the calendar project, where another member thought it would be a great idea to showcase these images well beyond the gallery, and into the next year. The result of that project is previewed below. The DIWI 2009 Calendar is on sale NOW! Funds raised from the sale will go to benefit Detroit Synergy and all the projects our members do (like this one!)

Be a part of the Calendar Street Team!

Do you know of a company, organization, store, bar, restaurant, or coffee house that would like to sell and/or purchase our calendar?

If you have knowledge of someone who you think would be interested in helping us sell the calendar, then we want to know! And if you think your place of business might be interested in purchasing calendars in quantities (they would make great gifts for clients!) then also let us know!

We will also need volunteers to deliver calendars to those businesses that have agreed to sell them for us.

For more information on how to help us get the word out, please contact Maxine at calendar@detroitsynergy.org

How and Why

This project began as a question: Why is Detroit worth it? It culminated in an exciting photo exhibit that showcased over 120 images showing all of us exactly why. The beauty and variety of these photos show Detroit to be a city that rewards exploration and loyalty rather than judgments based on reputation or initial impressions. They ranged from stunning shots of local landmarks to intimate images that show personal connections to the city. We wanted to share a few of these with you—and the calendar project team was born.

Perhaps among the photos you’ll glimpse aspects of the city you never knew existed, or you’ll see familiar features with new appreciation. We hope that these photos will generate conversation about Detroit’s virtue and inspire a new desire to discover more about the city.

Thank you, thank you very much!

For all those original photographers who submitted images, thank you for showing us why you think Detroit is worth it.

Special thanks goes to the photographers who donated their work for this calendar: Amy Palomar, Brett Lawrence, Chris Lesnieski, Chris Peters, Heather Brennan, Kara Coraci, Kim Connell, Maya Fardoun, Myett Risker, Scott Humphrey, Susan Barnes, and Tom Page.

A big thanks also goes out to the volunteers who made the 2008 exhibit and this 2009 calendar possible.
