Detroit Steering Team is an all volunteer group that assists the general membership of Detroit Synergy to implement project ideas that the membership want to make happen. The Steering Team ensures that Detroit Synergy events are planned and programmed to adhere to the organizations' core mission and vision while ensuring that it is the Detroit Synergy membership that plan and promote the types of events that are programmed.
The mission:
"We generate positive perceptions and opinions about Detroit by bringing together a diverse community and building upon the City's strengths and resources to realize a common vision for a greater Detroit."
Join the current Steering Team to explore your leadership opportunities in Detroit. Below are descriptions of the current open positions.
An ideal applicant for the Steering Team will have at least attended a few General Meetings and other events, and has participated in a project planning team.

Steering Team members are expected to attend almost all General Meetings (General Meetings occur every 2nd Thursday of the Month), most Synergy events, attend 2-3 planning retreats per year and attend steering team meetings (Steering Team meetings occur every 4th Thursday of the Month)
Project Chair Openings: Project chairs assist project leaders in creating their dream projects. They are responsible for helping the project leaders navigate through the DSG project process to get "green-lighted." Project chairs connect the leaders of projects to the resources in Detroit Synergy and the community to help leaders complete their projects successfully. An ideal candidate for these positons will have gone through the project process as a project team member or leader which has provided a good understanding of the DSG project process.
1) Dialogue Project Chair -- Interested in helping project leaders develop their project ideas into successful dialogue events large and small? Provide your leadership and planning skills to project leaders who develop dialogue events such as Coffe Talks, Detroit Bikes! and Discourses.
2) Discovery Project Chair -- Do you share others passion for exploring the new and old in detroit? Help project leaders develop their discovery projects that include gallery crawls, supper clubs and scavenger hunts to name a few.
Finance -- Are you CPA certified and interested in a volunteer opportunity in your community using your accounting skills? Help an organization with a unique budget structure create maintain a sound financial system. Finance Chair is responsible for tracking DSG's finances and creating organizational budgets and will help projects create their individual budgets in line with DSG's project principles.
Partnerships -- DSG has always emphasized that projects need not reinvent the wheel but rather work with other organizations who have similar ideas to DSG projects to create partnerships with those organizations. Instilling a sense of collaboration among organizations that are involved in the community is a core ideal of Detroit Synergy. The Partnerships chair is repsonsible for managing the agreements between DSG and other community partners, interfacing with other organizations who want to connect with DSG and creating working agreements for partnerships to flourish and succeed.

The Steering Team does take into consideration but is not limited by review of applicants' skills, experience and enthusiasm. We also review but are not limited to reviewing the professional presentation of application materials and interviews.
