Hike the Dequindre Cut
Come check out the biggest urban canvas you’ve ever seen and get some exercise in the process! Sunday, June 24th we’ll be hiking the Dequindre Cut in its entirety while learning a little bit about the history of the cut, the graffiti that exists there now, and about the future of the two-mile, below-grade abandoned rail line.
When: Sunday, June 24th
Time: 10 AM
Meeting Location: This has been changed! Parking lot of Fuddruckers on E. Jefferson! Shouldn't be too many shops open in that strip mall on that day and still close enough to the previous meeting location in case others don't get the update.
Where: Here's a Google Maps link of the proposed walk.
What: If you've ever wanted to see what the Dequindre Cut is like, but never were able to find the time or just not sure where to go, here's your chance! Along the way, you will be exposed to works by many different artists, hopefully changing or challenging some views you may have on graffiti across Detroit. The hike will also give you an opportunity to see first-hand what the environment is like before the Greenway Project begins.
Attire: Full length pants (blue jeans or Dickies work) as well as a long sleeve shirt to help with any mosquitoes and the overgrowth of bushes there.
Please also bring a bottle of water and a granola bar as the hike may be a little tiring.
And, of course, bring a camera!
